Sudha lost her right leg due to an amputation after a road accident near Trichy in South India in May 1981. Yet she picked up courage and got a prosthetic limb fixed by Ramon Magsasay Award winner Dr. P K Sethi. With the help of the now world-famous “Jaipur foot”
She practiced her art again, becoming one of the most highly acclaimed dancers of the Indian subcontinent, stunning the lovers of dance and dance critics who could not find any difference between her past footwork and the present. The media all over the world wrote millions of words about her flesh-tearing, blood-oozing practice sessions with the artificial limb, human endurance, grit, determination and the most superior kind of will power, the likes of which have no parallel in the history of the world.
