Getting to Know: APDK
While advocacy and support for persons with disabilities has been historically hard to come by, The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK), has been providing this and much more to disabled persons since 1958. One of the premier NGOs for disabled in Kenya, it provides both rehabilitative and non-rehabilitative services, ranging from therapy and community awareness programs to running poverty alleviation programmes for communities where it offers its services.
Among its array of services is a unique area of focus where they employ a number of persons with disabilities to create low-cost, affordable appliances for disabled persons such as crutches, wheelchairs and walking frames. They are then sold or given to the needy for personal use, completely changing their world for the better, while also providing jobs and valuable skills to people with disabilities with the jobs they provide.
Overall, APDK is an incredible association that is very worthy of emulation. GRF will do what it can to create a close bond which will be mutually beneficial.
Continue serving those less fortunate, APDK, and spreading awareness for the disabled!
